My Good School Retreat 2023 - Shristi Khulal
On the first day, when I entered the gate of The Doon Girls School. I was excited and nervous and was experiencing a mixture of feelings inside my head. I thought about what it would be like to meet new people from different parts of the country, for which I was a little nervous, but now I have known them for a long time. I couldn't even believe that the four days we spent were so memorable and not just unique but precious too.
While I sit and think about those days, the flashback of the precious memories always strikes my mind. I cannot explain how beautiful they were. Meeting different people and learning so much about their places and schools from Powerpoint Presentations was an excellent experience. I felt amazed when I learned that the school from which Ram Charan studied was there with us.
Whenever I sit and reflect on those four days first scene that comes to my eyes is our visit to Khalanga War Memorial. I enjoyed the trip and loved the smell of flowers from the Sal tree and the hill. I was grateful to meet mr Col Vikram Thapa and his team, from whom we learned many things about the war between Gorkhas and the British. As I am Nepali, I felt proud to hear about the bravery of Gorkhas. I enjoyed the walk up the hill, talking to the guiding sir. I felt thrilled to speak to the guiding team in my mother tongue and remain in my place. The view of Dehradun City from the hill was beautiful, in which I was trying to locate my school. I didn't know we could be so connected and share a precious moment in less time.
I even smile when I think of the funny moments in the Khan Farm where we played fun games. Not only were they fun, but they also taught us many skills like listening, coordination, teamwork and other leadership qualities. Also, the o ji, o ji by sir from Blossom School was a lot of fun.
How can I forget the visit to one of the most prestigious schools in India for which I am really grateful? Before visiting The Doon School, I used to talk to my friend while going to school by bus on seeing the tall wall, and now I feel fortunate and grateful. Whenever I see the wall from the bus, the memories stike in my mind of taking around the school with curious minds. I loved everything about the school, from the beautiful buildings to the activities available there.
I also miss the German Shepherd of the farmhouse, Max, Lily, and Dizzy, with whom I played. It was a beautiful moment. I was so mesmerized by the performance of The Doon Girls School students in the cultural show. I will never forget the motivational words by Monisha Ma'am. The morning walk on the Khan farm comes to my mind whenever I see the fields filled with crops and trees. On hearing the song Jeena Jeena, the moment came into my mind when the music teacher of Doon Girls School was teaching us guitar.
On the last day, when everyone was leaving one by one, I could see the beautiful memories we cherished together, and for a while, I felt sad. Before going to The Retreat, I never thought these four days would be this memorable. I am really grateful and thankful for getting this opportunity. Thanks to The Doon Girls School for being so good to us.

Flawsome and Fun - Our True Identity - Rishona Chopra
Instead of finding faults and criticizing ourselves, we should look at it with a positive attitude thinking that we shall not make this mistake again. We all make mistakes and learn from them. We must not have a delusion about ourselves. Therefore we are flawsome - have flaws but are yet so awesome!
Sometimes, we try to change ourselves for someone else, we tend to show off and change our look, personality and style just to make friends but that does nothing. It simply pressurizes us. Therefore we should have an open character and know we are flawsome yet fun.
On the other hand, criticizing the work of others is clearly wrong because we need empathy and fairness towards others. We must understand the feelings of others. If we spot any mistake in their work, we mustn't show it to them rudely. But politely point it out with the intention of looking out for them only if they ask for our opinion. We shouldn't misguide them.
None of us is perfect with no mistakes, but our imperfections make us so perfect!

The beauty of bookshops - Rishona Chopra
When I enter a bookshop,
I see stories clinging onto shelves nonstop.
I want to look at every shelf,
Even the fantasy stories of an elf.
The environment makes me feel as if I should never leave,
Just sit down and read.
The cosy chairs,
Sad stories that shed tears.
Then I think,
I could have ordered books in a blink.
But it won't be as fun,
In the beautiful world of stories that has just begun!

When I see a Glass half full... - Anvesha Rana
When I see a glass half full,
I see some yarn left in a ball of wool
I look at the little food on a plate,
And a few words on someone’s slate
I yearn for the small giggle,
When I see a tiny insect wriggle.
Little it may be but not weak it is,
Less it may be but not short it is,
More we might have but do we need it?
Aren’t we pleased with what we gave it?
May it be half empty or
It can also be half-filled,
It is what our perception is,
Do we complain about the loss
Or be grateful for the most?
A Glass Half Full is not just a lesson
For Perspective or pessimistic thoughts,
It is a teacher with no chalk and duster
But with just water,
It can pass on Responsibility and Gratitude,
Simply with its carefree attitude.

My Great Grandfather - Rishona Chopra
I am teaching him how to play Sudoku, too, it's a challenging game, but he is learning it really well and is so passionate. I got a Sudoku book 3 years ago and only did 40 Sudoku, but he got one 3 months ago and has completed 70 puzzles! He definitely won't rest until he has completed all the puzzles! He sometimes has back pain, so I try to help him as much as possible. Sometimes, I can't understand what he says, but when he laughs, I laugh too, even though I don't know why he is laughing!

Swami and Friends - Anvesha Rana
Somewhere in life, there must be someone to take your hand and share the torrid day. Without a touch of Friendship, there is no life, and we must fade away. There are friends, there is family, and then there are friends who become family. Friendship is a tonic for all of us that only grows stronger over time; it is the cure for every challenge, the outlook for every good day, and the wish for every person. Probably no relationship is as essential yet versatile as Friendship. The intimacy and affinity we have with our friends are irreplaceable, and it comes in many forms; whether we are next to each other or miles apart, we always remember them, and they are our Friends.
So, join us as we dive into this adventure with Swami and Friends. We won’t know what’s coming next, for this will be full of twists, turns and steep ends, but one thing we can be sure of, whatever it is, will be the most memorable.

My Aspirations - Gaurangi Rastogi
Childhood has been miserable,
Because you have to learn something basic,
When we grow up as a teen
I got pressured to top the boards
I got pressured to become a doctor
Will the world still accept if I am something else?
I feel like running away from home,
I think I am not safe in my home sweet home,
I want to speak to this world,
I have my aspirations,
To change the mindset of the people
Who judges me based on occupation,
Who are you to control me?
I am a phoenix who takes the rebirth from its ashes
Which is from its failures.
If you control me,
I will control you every time,
As you made my life miserable
I will make yours,
At the end of the story
I have my aspirations!

Why Should I Go To School? - Rishona Chopra
A school is where we learn, grow, and work on ourselves. Schools are not a building but are a building made of education and life. Schools are a place full of knowledge where students learn under the guidance of teachers. They are more than just academics. They focus on making us a good person, an actual human.
Schools are for us to grow and enhance our area of excellence. Therefore, every event in school, every day when we have fun playing games, is probably the best.
I go to school to learn and enjoy. I find so much joy.
Learning new things, I come to play near a spring.
Learning a new math trick, So it becomes easy and quick. I come to go to the lab, And make music beats by banging the slab!
I came to dance, And get another chance. I come to play, It makes me happy and gay! I come to make new friends, And borrow some pens. Going to school is so much fun, But the fun has just begun. Gyanshree: G-Glorious Y-Youthful A-Academic N-Nice S-Super H-Humble R-Respectful E-Efficient E-Eager

Coffee with the Coach - Anvesha Rana
Maybe it was a grandparent, a colleague or a teacher, someone older, patient and wiser, who ignited your lost mind; crackled the fire of learning in you when you were young and impassioned. It perhaps helped you view the world as a more profound place and gave you sound advice to guide your way through it. It was my teacher, maybe for you, it would be someone else but...
Wouldn't you like to see that one person again, to ask the more important questions that still haunt you and receive wisdom for life the way it is now?
Coffee with the Coach is a conversation between a teacher and his student about almost everything. Most importantly, about the 22 immutable values cornerstone of My Good School. Coffee with the Coach is a magical chronicle of their time spent together.

Their Worst Clothes - Rishona Chopra
Wearing the dirtiest clothes to school so that there is no worry about the student's clothes getting torn or soiled is a very good idea. At my earlier school, they used to allow us to dance in the rain, play in the mud, jump over fences and do many more fun things. The idea of letting children play is all about letting them enjoy and cherish the fun of childhood.
At my earlier school, wheat used to grow in the gardens, so my friend and I used to go into the gardens and pluck the grain and eat it as it was so that nobody would take them. We used to hide them under our tables on the floor and, without washing them, eat them again.
Childhood is the best time to enjoy this fun, so why not cherish our time and make the best of it!
